Concrete Coatings

Petra’s primary area of specialization is concrete coatings.  There are various types that meet different functional needs and aesthetic expectations.  But all of the Petra coatings provide a seamless, monolithic, non-porous surface that protects and enhances concrete.

THIN MILS SYSTEMS

Thin mil systems are concrete coatings that range between 6-30 mils thick.  They can either be a waterbased epoxy, a 100% solid epoxy, or have a high gloss urethane top coat.  They are suited for foot traffic and light production conditions.

HIGH BUILDS SYSTEMS AND OVERLAYMENTS

The thickness of a concrete coating high build or overlayment can be from 1/16” to ½”.  Petra high builds are usually installed as resin rich systems with Core-Kote HB.  However, a clad system is also available.  They are designed to provide maximum protection from impact, abrasion, chemical attack, continual vehicle traffic, and other harsh production conditions.

POLYURETHANE CONCRETE

Installing polyurethane concrete has given Petra the advanced technology to solve difficult problem in food processing facilities.  Petra Crete U is a type of overlayment specifically engineered to withstand thermal shock and thermal cycling, unlike traditional epoxy high builds.  It may also be applied with a urethane top coat to also enhance the aesthetics of the facility.

POLYMER CONCRETE

Petra’s polymer concrete is the strongest, most durable, heavy duty option for salvaging damaged concrete. It resurfaces the concrete substrate with a minimum layer of 1/2”, but can be installed as thick as needed, up to several feet.  Polymer concrete comes in a traditional epoxy or a high, acid-resistant epoxy which is ideal for chemical processing and secondary containment applications.

ESD (ELECTRIC STATIC DISSAPTIVE)

Electronic plants have unique needs in their facilities where millions of dollars are lost every year from electric static damaging valuable merchandise.  That is why Petra’s ESD floor coatings become a key component for protecting electronic manufacturing.  Being seemless, monolithic, and maintenance free, they do not require an ESD wax, also allowing them to save money in continual upkeep costs.  The ESD systems are also important when increasing safety for environments that either contain or produce ammunition, explosive devices, or solvents sensitive to electric static.

CHEMICAL AND ACID RESISTANCE

Every year, millions of dollars are lost due to chemical attack on concrete.  Knowing how to correctly install concrete coatings in high-chemical and acid environments has been a core tenet of Petra’ s reputation for over twenty five years.  Using the best acid resistant coatings for hazardous waste storage, secondary containment, and chemical processing, Petra has been the leader in this field.

RAPID TURN AROUND TIMES

When manufacturing plants shut down for production, time is of the essence.  Short windows are given to complete projects.  Only top-notch, experienced field workers have the skill level needed to work with such fast curing products and accommodate the tight time frames.  Fortunately, Petra has dozens of these field workers on staff, as well having all the major Petra products available in a rapid cure (RC) version.

DECORATIVE

Petra’s decorative concrete coating services beautify concrete and improve the visual appearance of any facility.  Petra Quartz and Petra Chip systems have a varied, patterned quality that offers an alternative to the standard, solid color look of typical epoxies and urethanes.  Petra offers other decorative options including the use of installing multiple colors, making custom colors not available on the color chart, blending different colors to create a swirl pattern, adding metallic pigments, or creating any other custom design.  Decorative systems are ideal for the pharmaceutical industry, retail, schools, churches, and many others.

SLOPING

Having the ability to slope concrete with epoxy or urethane is of the upmost importance when correcting drainage problems and or leveling a particular surface.  The appropriate products are chosen to create a deep bond to the concrete, unparalleled to other cementitious-based systems.  Due to the fact that concrete should be poured at a minimum of 2.5” (whereas Petra sloping can be applied at any thickness) and that concrete takes an average of 21 days to cure (whereas Petra sloping is cured in hours), the benefits of sloping with Petra are tremendous.  Food and chemical plants are ideal environments for sloping.
